Stephen Spence is the Chair of Mechanical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, and Head of the Department of Mechanical, Manufacturing and Biomedical Engineering. He has led research in turbomachinery topics for almost 30 years, working primarily in centrifugal compressor and radial turbine design and performance. His industrial collaborators include turbocharger and gas turbine engine manufacturers. Stephen is a past chair of the IGTI Turbomachinery Committee. He has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Turbomachinery and in various roles on the Organising Committee of ASME Turbo Expo. He is currently supervising research projects in turbomachinery aerodynamics, combustion and sustainable aviation.
