Title: Development of Compressors and Turbofans for the Decarbonization of Industrial Steam Applications
Abstract:
Development of Compressors and Turbofans for the Decarbonization of Industrial Steam Applications
The increasing demand for energy-efficient and low-carbon industrial heat solutions has led to a growing interest in mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) systems. At the heart of these systems lies the compressor, which plays a critical role in elevating water vapor to higher pressure levels, enabling the recovery and reuse of thermal energy. While the process benefits of MVR are well understood, this presentation focuses on the engineering and development of the core turbomachinery components—compressors and turbofans—tailored for demanding steam applications.
This presentation focuses on the design and development of compressors and turbofans specifically intended for industrial steam applications in sectors such as food & dairy, pharmaceuticals, and wastewater treatment (ZLD). These environments impose stringent requirements on compressor performance, reliability, and material compatibility. It will highlight recent development efforts, including prototype testing, simulation results, and lessons learned from field deployments.
