Prof. Roque Corral
Prof. Roque Corral is Professor in the Department of Fluid Mechanics and Aerospace Propulsion at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), specialising in turbomachinery aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, aeroacoustics and computational engineering.
He previously held senior engineering positions at Industria de TurboPropulsores (ITP Aero, now part of Rolls-Royce), where he led the development of advanced turbomachinery design systems incorporating aerodynamic, aeroelastic, aerothermal, aeroacoustic and structural analysis.
His research focuses on computational methods for turbomachinery, including unsteady aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, aeroacoustics and heat transfer. He has authored or co-authored almost 200 scientific publications and holds a US patent for an innovative rotor configuration designed to reduce turbine blade flutter risk.

Title: Aeroelastic Instabilities of High-by-Pass Ratio Fans
Abstract: Fans have traditionally been a source of aeroelastic problems, and their relevance in aeroengines has drawn much attention to their solution.
Future fans will necessarily be bigger than their predecessors and more prone to aeromechanic instabilities. Engine architecture changes will pose difficulties in reading across past experience. The presentation will revisit the impact of intake length, acoustic liners and distortion on fan stability.
