Title:
Industrial Gas Turbines Decarbonization Triggered by Additive Manufacturing
Abstract
To drive emission reduction and performance improvement of the gas turbines(GT), the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) are working continuously with development and implementation of new advanced technologies. This presentation will describe integration of groundbreaking Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology into gas turbine components design and manufacturing.
AM technology is already implemented by few OEMs for design and manufacturing of combustor components to run gas turbines on green fuels. As an example, at Siemens Energy implementation of AM burners in MGT (Medium Size Gas Turbine) DLE (Dry Low Emission) combustor expands their fuel flexibility, operation on hydrogen-rich gases resulting in CO2 emission reduction. Today, the SGT-600, -700 and -800 can be offered to run on a fuel with up to 75 vol-% H2 in the fuel.
Integration of AM technology into design and manufacturing of turbine’s components, such as vanes and blades, leads to substantial gas turbine efficiency improvement, and as a result, gas turbine fuel consumption and emissions reduction. This presentation will describe the infusion of AM technology into design and manufacturing of hot gas path components, in particular turbine’s vanes at Siemens Energy (SE) gas turbines.
Turbine and turbine’s components efficiency improvement is driven by utilization of new advanced cooling system and aerodynamic improvements enabled by practically unlimited capability of AM design and manufacturing.
It is important to mention, that additive manufacturing technology could be a key driver for efficiency improvement, carbon footprint and NOx emissions reduction not only for new gas turbines, but also for the already installed GT fleets.
Successful design, manufacturing and field validation of AM vanes in SGT-700 gas turbines will be presented and discussed in this presentation.
Reliable operation of SE GT’s AM components at real field operation conditions confirmed by total accumulated field experience that already exceeded 1 800 000 operating hours
