Forum Executive Secretary
Assoc. Prof. Matteo Pini
Dr. Pini is Associate Professor in Turbomachinery in the Propulsion and Power group
at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of Delft University of Technology.
The research activity of Dr. Pini encompasses the fields of fluid mechanics,
thermodynamics, and numerical methods, with a particular interest regarding the
study of the physics of fluid flows in the so-called nonideal thermodynamic regime.
His ultimate objective concerns the conception and development of unconventional
high-speed transonic/supersonic turbomachinery for propulsion and power, carried
out through the application of advanced multi-disciplinary design methods and
experimental testing.
Dr. Pini is coordinator of the international working group overseeing the further advancement of the open-source software SU2 for turbomachinery applications and he is serving as executive secretary in the Foundation managing and promoting the software. Dr. Pini is an enthusiastic educator and lecturer of courses on aero engines, internal flows, and turbomachinery, and is now engaged in the development of a European Course on Engineering Thermodynamics experimenting with novel pedagogical approaches.
