Abstract:
Italy’s Hydrogen Valley Malpensa project, officially supported by the Horizon Europe program, is a landmark initiative seeking to pioneer hydrogen-powered aviation and usher in an era of energy sustainability and decarbonization around Malpensa Airport. The endeavor, technically dubbed TH2ICINO, is notably the first in Italy and is poised to be a reference model, spotlighting hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and consumption.
TH2ICINO Project Mission
CIRCE and Lhyfe play pivotal roles as designers and engineers, creating a cohesive valley that integrates users, energy balances, and hydrogen production. The project aspires to slash 4,400 tonnes of annual CO2 emissions, embodying the equivalent impact of removing 1,500 cars from the roads, thereby playing a pivotal role in the decarbonization of areas around Malpensa and potentially, numerous other airports globally.
Regional leaders and companies are in concerted support of this venture, emphasizing its potential in reshaping energy models, fostering economic growth, energy autonomy, and the propagation of green energy, all while drawing a blueprint for analogous projects across Europe and potentially worldwide.
