Frank Hummel

Frank Hummel studied mechanical engineering at University in Hanover, Germany and at ETH in Zurich and finished his education with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from RWTH Aachen. He worked for 16 years in product development of heavy duty gas turbines at Alstom and Ansaldo Energia, where he was for 5 years responsible for the GT26 development. Since 2017 Frank is with ABB Turbocharging / Accelleron, where he is currently responsible for product development and care of turbochargers applied on medium and low speed engines.

Abstract:
In the context of decarbonization of international transport, the shipping industry is developing a strategy to reach net zero carbon emissions. The targets and possible path forward to reach that goal is presented and different future fuel options are discussed and put into perspective. Furthermore the implications to overall infrastructure around the shipping industry are discussed and required shared pathways across different sectors in industry are highlighted.
