Panelist
Benjamin Witzel holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in the field of applying advanced diagnostics to gas turbine combustion systems.
Working for Siemens since 2013, Benjamin was the technical lead for the development of different combustion systems incl. the latest system for the new SGTX-9000HL frame as well as a new combustion technology for 100% H2 DLE combustion.
In Oct. 2022, Benjamin was appointed as the Head of Fuel Flexibility, Hydrogen, and Carbon Capture for Siemens Energy’s Gas Services portfolio.
Since May 2022, Benjamin is also the Chairman of the German joint turbo machinery research network AG Turbo.
Keynote: Decarbonization pathways in Power
Abstract:
Climate change requires the rapid and decisive transformation of the energy sector. While decarbonization is the main goal of this transformation, energy must remain reliable and affordable – the energy trilemma. Unfortunately, there is no single solution to best balance the energy trilemma and every region, market, and application needs to work from its individual position. However, turbomachinery will play a key role in all of them. This keynote provides an overview of different decarbonization pathways and their individual strengths and weaknesses.
